Police stated they were contacted by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for details.

A senior official commented the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
